Sony's own lists leave the Xperia 10 VI off Android 17

Sony's U.S. version table stops the Xperia 10 VI at Android 16. Its Android 17 guide omits that model. The Verge reports a UK notice citing storage.

The short version

The U.S. support table lists Android 14, then 15, then 16. The Android 17 help guide names other Xperia models and does not name the 10 VI. A storage explanation appears in The Verge's account of a UK notice, which this page has not opened.

Two Sony pages, one model missing

Sony's U.S. article on Xperia devices and Android versions lists the 2024 Xperia 10 VI as Android 14, then 15, then 16. The same table lists a 2026 Xperia VIII as Android 16, then 17. Sony's Android 17 help guide says it covers the Xperia 1 VIII, 1 VII, 1 VI, 10 VIII, and 10 VII, and that update timing varies by model. The 10 VI is not named. A version path on a vendor table is the kind of contract the software desk already fileswhat a version number has to mean.

What The Verge adds

On October 16 The Verge reported that a notice on Sony's UK support site says the 10 VI will not get Android 17. The Verge says Sony's notice describes a detailed technical assessment and limitations related to the device's storage configuration, and that Sony decided not to offer an upgrade it considers adequate. The Verge also says Sony apologized that the decision falls short of the original announcement, and that four years of security updates should run to June 2028. Those sentences are The Verge's account of a page this brief did not open. The mobile desk isMobile.

What the phone was promised, as reported

The Verge says the 10 VI launched more than two years ago with Android 14 and a promise of three major OS updates, which would have included Android 17. The U.S. table's path of 14, 15, and 16 is two major steps after the launch version, and it stops. This page will not invent a fourth Sony sentence to glue the table to the UK notice. The table is Sony USA. The regret and the storage reason are reported by The Verge. The paper isFutureweb.

Who is in scope

Owners of an Xperia 10 VI are the people the two Sony lists single out by omission. The Verge says Sony's notice says the storage issue does not change promised updates for other Xperia models. The help guide's inclusion of the 10 VII and the 10 VIII is consistent with that reported limit, and it is a separate document. A reader with a 1 VI is on the Android 17 guide. A reader with a 10 VI is not. Hardware, for a different headset, isthe XREAL 1 Pro Plus.

What a help guide is

The guide says it explains features whose steps changed after the Android 17 update, and that it does not cover every function. It also says some services depend on country, network, or carrier. That is a manual for models that receive the update. It is not a worldwide promise that every listed phone has the software today. Timing, the guide says, varies by model. The security desk is Asked directly, Where does the storage sentence come from? The Verge, quoting a notice it says Sony posted on a UK support site. This brief did not open that UK page, so the storage wording stays attributed to The Verge.Security.

What this page will not decide

Whether 128 gigabytes of storage is a sufficient reason is a reviewer's argument. The Verge's headline treats the break with a three-update promise as the news. This brief's job is narrower: Sony's U.S. table stops at 16, Sony's Android 17 guide does not list the phone, and a UK notice as reported by The Verge gives a storage rationale and a security-update horizon. The open-source desk is Asked directly, What path does the U.S. table give the 10 VI? Android 14, then 15, then 16. The same table lists a 2026 Xperia VIII on a path from 16 to 17.Open Source.

How a reader can check

Open the U.S. version table and find the 10 VI row. Open the Android 17 help guide and read the model list at the top. Then read The Verge if you want the UK notice paraphrased. If Sony later adds the 10 VI to the guide, this page's middle claim changes. If the U.S. table gains a 17, the first claim changes. Until then the lists are the record. Networking isNetworking.

Security updates are a different clock

The Verge says OS updates for the 10 VI are ending and that security updates continue. An operating-system version and a security-patch stream are different promises. This page does not have Sony's patch bulletin in hand, so it does not name a bulletin number. The June 2028 horizon is The Verge's reading of four years, not a date this brief calculated. The software desk is Asked directly, Which models does the Android 17 help guide name? Xperia 1 VIII, Xperia 1 VII, Xperia 1 VI, Xperia 10 VIII, and Xperia 10 VII. The 10 VI is not in that list.Software.

The line to keep

Sony's pages show where the 10 VI sits. The Verge shows what it says Sony told UK readers about why Android 17 will not be offered. Mixing those into one voice would hide which document was opened. The short answer this page will stand on is this: The U.S. support table lists Android 14, then 15, then 16. The Android 17 help guide names other Xperia models and does not name the 10 VI. A storage explanation appears in The Verge's account of a UK notice, which this page has not opened.

What path does the U.S. table give the 10 VI?

Android 14, then 15, then 16. The same table lists a 2026 Xperia VIII on a path from 16 to 17.

The Verge, quoting a notice it says Sony posted on a UK support site. This brief did not open that UK page, so the storage wording stays attributed to The Verge.

That Sony will continue four years of security updates, which The Verge says should extend until June 2028, and that Sony said the issue is specific to the 10 VI.
