Two German batteries, each about four hours

Enertrag and Enlight started a 200 megawatt battery at Bertikow. Vattenfall contracted Fluence for 254 megawatts at Brunsbuettel. Both announcements work out to about four hours.

The short version

Bertikow, from Enertrag and Enlight, is 200 megawatts and about 840 megawatt-hours, aimed at the first half of 2028. Brunsbuettel, from Vattenfall and Fluence, is 254 megawatts and more than 1,000 megawatt-hours, aimed at the end of 2028. At those figures each is on the order of four hours.

Bertikow, from the companies

ENERTRAG's October 15, 2026 release says Enlight and ENERTRAG have started construction of the Bertikow battery in Brandenburg after a groundbreaking on October 13. The plant is 200 megawatts and about 840 megawatt-hours, jointly owned, on land near the Bertikow substation in Uckerfelde, with land rights and grid access already secured. Commercial operation is targeted for the first half of 2028. It is meant for the day-ahead and intraday markets and for ancillary services. The offtake, and who optimizes

The same release says part of the capacity is under a seven-year offtake with EDF Trading, described as Enlight's first European battery offtake and the company's entry into the German storage market. Entrix will optimize the asset. Osborne Clarke advised on the contract. A contract for part of the capacity is not a contract for every megawatt-hour. Renewables Now's October 14 item confirms that construction of the 840 megawatt-hour plant had started. The energy desk is The document named in the sources is the record this page will keep.Energy.

Brunsbuettel, from the supplier account

Energy Storage's October 15 report says Vattenfall contracted Fluence for a battery at the former nuclear site in Brunsbuettel: 254 megawatts and more than 1,000 megawatt-hours, construction in 2027, operation by the end of 2028, on 50Hertz's 380 kilovolt grid. It says Fluence will deliver its Gridstack Pro 5000 platform on a turnkey basis, including long-term service, and that Vattenfall said the site will nearly double its existing battery capacity. Those sentences are the trade paper's account of the contract. The paper isFutureweb.

Why both are about four hours

Duration here is stored energy divided by power, which is what the standing brief means by the word. Bertikow's 840 megawatt-hours at 200 megawatts is 4.2 hours. Brunsbuettel's more-than-1,000 megawatt-hours at 254 megawatts is at least about four hours. Energy Storage calls Brunsbuettel a four-hour system in so many words. This page is not rating which chemistry is inside the containers. It is reading the two ratios the announcements support. What a roundup must not do to this page

Headlines this week have added further German projects and printed a combined gigawatt-hour figure. This brief does not adopt that sum. A third project this page has not opened does not get added to 840 and 1,000. Readers who want the wider list can read the roundup. The two plants above are the ones with a company release or a direct account of a contract. The hardware desk is Asked directly, Which grid does each release name? Bertikow is near the Bertikow substation, and the ceremony included 50Hertz. Energy Storage says Brunsbuettel connects to the 380 kilovolt network operated by 50Hertz.Hardware.

Who is in scope

Brandenburg and Brunsbuettel, the owners and the supplier named above, 50Hertz as the network both accounts mention, and EDF Trading for part of Bertikow. A solar forecast for a different year is not these batteries. That forecast is Asked directly, Who owns Bertikow? Enertrag says the project is jointly owned by Enlight and ENERTRAG. A groundbreaking was held at the site on October 13, and the release is dated October 15. Asked directly, Does this page add other German projects into one total? No. A roundup headline has grouped several four-hour projects. This brief prints only Bertikow and Brunsbuettel, because those are the two releases it opened.BNEF's 2026 solar forecast.

What has not been switched on

Bertikow has broken ground and is aimed at early 2028. Brunsbuettel, on the Energy Storage account, has a contract and a 2027 construction start. Neither release says electrons are flowing. A groundbreaking and a supply contract are the events. Commercial operation is a target. The software desk is Asked directly, When does each project say it will operate? Bertikow targets the first half of 2028. Energy Storage says Brunsbuettel construction is scheduled for 2027 and operation by the end of 2028. The nuclear site is a location

Energy Storage says Brunsbuettel is at a nuclear plant that is being decommissioned. That is a place. It is not a claim about the battery's fuel, and it is not a claim that the nuclear unit is part of the storage project. The security desk is Asked directly, What offtake does Enertrag name? A seven-year agreement with EDF Trading for part of the capacity. Enertrag calls it Enlight's first European battery offtake. Entrix will optimize the asset. Osborne Clarke advised on that contract.Security.

The line to keep

200 megawatts and about 840 megawatt-hours at Bertikow, in construction, toward early 2028. 254 megawatts and more than 1,000 megawatt-hours at Brunsbuettel, contracted, toward the end of 2028. Both ratios are about four hours. The short answer this page will stand on is this: Bertikow, from Enertrag and Enlight, is 200 megawatts and about 840 megawatt-hours, aimed at the first half of 2028. Brunsbuettel, from Vattenfall and Fluence, is 254 megawatts and more than 1,000 megawatt-hours, aimed at the end of 2028. At those figures each is on the order of four hours.
